Statement from Vice President John W. Franklin
May 17, 2041
My fellow Americans,
In the wake of the horrific attacks that took the life of President Vanes, his Cabinet, and so many innocent Americans, our nation has been grieving. But even in our mourning, we have not wavered in our pursuit of justice.
I want to assure the American people that our intelligence and law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to uncover the full scope of this attack and bring those responsible to justice. The Central Intelligence Agency, in coordination with the FBI, the NSA, and our military intelligence partners, has made significant progress in its investigation.
While we are still gathering intelligence, we now have our eyes on a radical Islamic extremist group known as Jaysh al-Muqaddasâthe so-called "Sacred Army." Early intelligence suggests this organization has ties to known terrorist networks and may have played a direct role in orchestrating this act of war against the United States.
Let me be clear: If Jaysh al-Muqaddas or any other group believes they can attack our homeland and go unpunished, they are gravely mistaken. We will find them. We will dismantle them. And we will ensure that no enemy of the United States can ever again strike at our heart without facing the full force of American justice.
This administration will not act recklessly, but we will act decisively. We will follow the facts, and we will ensure that those who funded, harbored, or assisted these terrorists face the consequences of their actions.
To the American people: We ask for your vigilance, your unity, and your trust. We will not rest until justice is served.
God bless the victims. God bless our armed forces and intelligence community. And God bless the United States of America.
John W. Franklin
Vice President of the United States
